II7 works a bit differently. This kindda thing is in the <system.webServer> configuration.
So, for example:
<add name="MyHandler" preCondition="integratedMode" verb="GET,HEAD" path="SomeStuff.axd" type="MyCompany.SomeType, MyCompany.SomeAssembly, Version=1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=12345678"/>

Thanks for the reply, shados.

You're working on a german server yet you're not fluent german? That is uncommon :) I'm french and refuse to touch a french machine... nevermind an english speaker using a french machine... crazy! :)
Anyway, when stuff like that happens, which is most likely due to error in the versioning configurations, I simply omit them, personally.
<add name="PictHandler" preCondition="integratedMode" verb="GET,HEAD" path="*.pictx" type="Pict_HttpHandler, PictHandler"/>
integratedMode or classicMode depends on how you're using IIS7. In theory, if you're configured in classic mode, there should be -very few- differences between IIS6 and IIS7 for your app, so I assumed you were running in integrated mode, in which case you
can either omit the preCondition or put integratedMode I guess. I'm a bit fuzzy about that one.

We're working for a German company that had an English server (Windows 2003), but decided to move to Windows 2008 a whole web application (with all its related "desktop and web friends" satellite applications [:)]... so, not that easy with the German part.
I still get errors although tried different approaches, like the ones bellow:
<add name="PictHandler" preCondition="integratedMode" verb="*" path="*.pictx" type="PictHttpHandler,PictHandler"/>
The error we get is
[TypeLoadException: Der Typ PictHttpHandler in der Assembly PictHandler konnte nicht geladen werden.]
System.RuntimeTypeHandle._GetTypeByName(String name, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase, Boolean reflectionOnly, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean loadTypeFromPartialName) +0
The type PictHttpHandler in the assembly PictHandler could not be loaded.
The application was written in .Net 1.1; I recompiled it and now we're trying making it work under IIS 7; can this be a problem because of which it's not loading under new version of IIS, might be related
to platform version - although recompiled under 2.0 ?

We found by mistake the solution to our problem [:D]; indeed it should have been worked from the beginning, with an entry of type
as you suggested before.
The (strange) problem is that a call of type
was not working, while a call like
I don't know to much on network part [:)], but the net-admin guy found a solution, creating a Virtual Directory that is pointing to the localhost address, and now the type PictHandler.PictHttpHandler appears in the dropdown list where the handlers can be
selected for current web application.
Thanks for your help [;)]
