Ok, (this is not about hurting horses). I was just wondering how much can be done with a particular hosting setup. My main worry is scalability.
Can anybody provide some educated guesstamates on:
Approximately how many page views can I get out of a good shared hosting solution (say discountasp), how about a good vps solution? I read somewhere that a good shared hosting solution should be good for 50,000 page views per day..(assuming I have a well
written application of course ;-)) Anybody know of any busy sites they host?
I'm a developer and really have no experience of hosting. I know the best solution would be to go dedicated - but because I'm a developer and not an IT person I don't really know my head from my ass when it comes to maintaining the server, security etc?
I'm assuming there is more to it than running windows update once a week?..
I guess I'm asking at what kind of traffic figure I would need to have to start thinking about dedicated hosting or cloud approaches over shared or vps.
Any input would be gratefully received!

i think it is really hard to say for anyone. All app. are different and shared plans are different too. If you not sure what plan will be right for your app. go with company like :
CrystalTech - you can start with their plan for 16.95/m (very good shared plan and great company). When your app. will need more resources they can move you to higher shared plan,
to VPS solution or dedicated server if needed...
One of my customers +/- 500,000 page views/month and it is hosted in shared plan 16.95/m, on the other hand i have small portal around 600,000page views/m and it is hosted on VPS $100/m - just because it needs a lot of space for audio
