I have tried Convert(varchar, dbo_Customer.Referrer) as Refer then in my where statement Where Refer<>' ' but that doesn't work. Any suggestions?

You don't need to convert the field at all. It's a MEMO field in Access. Just run a query WHERE MyMemoField <> ' '.
