I know there is a thread already, but none of that info is helping me.. Has anyone else recently gotten this error message with 08?
I installed VS 2008 a few days ago and could debug/run sites just fine.. I started my computer up the next day and I'm getting this message.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

I am experiencing this problem as well with one of my projects, and I'm not able to wrap my head around this issue! I come from a Mac background (recently denounced Apple) so I find myself often starting over in VS to fix problems. Pasting the code into a
new, working blank template seems to at least get me back going, but I'm sick of this routine, please help!
So I'm running a project fine on another box with VS2005, but transferring over to 08 gives me this error. Also, creating and debugging a new, blank web application in VS08 works flawlessly. I have XP Pro SP3. I do not have any 3rd party antivirus (except
an older Symantec that does strait hard drive scans), or antispyware / firewall that would conflict. I do not see the webserver.exe in any of my .NET framework folders, however I did a search and found it here -> C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DevServer\9.0
When I hit Ctrl-5 I get a dialog explaining the usage of the Webserver.exe (which l'm assuming means it's at least loading) but then clicking OK immediately pops open the "Unable to connect to the asp.net development server". No icon in the tray.
http://localhost:80 and http://localhost:80/Website1 (my blank, new website template) gives me the IE cannot display page.
As a long shot, I tried taking the web.config from the working 08 blank template and pasting it in my project and no luck. Any ideas?

I've reformatted my computer like twice now, and I get .NET to work for a few days, and then this happens. I completely delete my partitions and reinstall, and still get this error after a few days.. I also noticed that when I try to run webdev.webserver.exe
I get an error saying WebDev.WebServer.EXE is not a valid Win32 application.. I even tried to make backup copies this time of the file when it was running correctly, and now those don't work either.
What would cause that to happen? Any ideas?
