our exchange machine would not send any mail outside of our company. Our queue was growing out of control.We try to restart the smtp service but queus remains as it is..any advice??

It sounds like you internet connection for mail is down or disabled. What version of Exchange are you using?
I would double check your connector settings and application log for errors. Also confirm that you can send email out and it's not getting blocked by a firewall, use telnet to an external mail server. I.e. telnet mail.gmail.com 25

I would initially check the following;
as already suggested, try telnet to port 25 of your smtp relay address
Also check your IP address for the sending server is not blocked by any of your firewalls that you might be using etc.
If you use any 3rd party anti-spam, anti-virus as a smart host enure they are allowing the server IP address etc.
