I want to know how to access the exchange server & capture the attributes of the incoming mails to our common inbox to a database as soon as it hits our common inbox.
Right now I am using an outlook macro to capture the attributes as soon as the mail is received in our common inbox. But if my outlook is not open then my code will not work.
Hence I am planning to create an application which can be installed on the server which will interact with the exchange server.
The application which I am trying to create will be able to update table as sson as a mail is received in the database.
Any guidance on this will be really helpful.

There is a technique called CDO (Collaboration Data Objects) which can be used to access an Exchange mailbox without the need for outlook. Unfortunately it is not very well documented in a .net environment, but if you google on the subject you might find
some pointers. Here's one article on CodeProject that might be useful:
Here's a bit of an overview of CDO with some .net pointers:
I have only worked with CDO briefly in an old VB6 project, so unfortunately I don't think I'll be much of a help for you. But the pointers should get you going in the right direction. Good luck!
