All applications that access ldap.abc.com should request an application id. Application entries are created under .ou=applications,o=abc.com.

This seems to be a local policy you have. There is no general concept such as application id in LDAP. Please ask whoever told you to use application id to explain what they mean.
Do you know if you are using Active Directory or other LDAP source?
They might refer to an application user (i.e. service account) that you need in order to access the LDAP. But without further information, I can only guess.
