although its not a technical question i hope its o.k. to post this here
i want to build a site in asp.net + sql database,
however a lot of people say that hosting costs are high compared to php+mysql,
how can i know how large of a difference in costs are we talking about?
(basically i would much prefer to work with the asp.net technology
however if its too expansive i'll have to go the php route)

Yes. asp.net + sql windows hosting will be expensive when compared to linux hosting (php / mysql). However, nowadays you can find decent windows hosting with asp.net + sql database support in $5 - $10 per month price range.

You could check here some asp.net hosting prices -
ASP.NET Shared Hosting Providers, and decide if it's expensive for you.

Take a look at ReliableSite ($5/m) - i host with them for months now and everything works great. Keep in mind it is small hosting company - so i use them only for
if you have about $15/m go with company like CrystalTech

The difference will run you anywhere from $60 a year to $240 a year, US$. You can go more expensive if you wish of course. Only you can decide if that's too expensive for you.

o.k. thank you all very much, if those are the costs involved than i'm sticking with asp.net+mssql.
