Please check out www.birdzee.com There is still performance issues when trying to open it. It will eventually open but takes around 10 seconds. Any suggestions

A few things you can check.....
Cache any data that you use frequently....(just like the categories are cached).....
Another thing..if you are using a dedicated server there are settings in your IIS to configure the application pool to keep alive..by default IIS shuts down the website if it's idle for 10 mins or so ....
So the work around is to configure iis to keep it alive and not recycle the worker process...If you are using shared hosting. I dont know if you can do that...A workaround is to create background thread that visits your website every 5-10 mins to make sure
it stays alive..

In my testing of your site it looks like it's the initual startup of the application pool like ash was talking about.
Other than changing the app pool take a look at your web.config, make sure your tag comilation debug is set to false, and custom errors mode is set to remote.
