I can't get the .net debugger working, I keep getting an error message "Error while trying to run project: unable to start debugging on the web server"
My PC has
.net version 1.1.4322 sp1
windows xp pro sp2
IIS version 5.1
I have setup a virtual directory for the application but the framework in the configuration of the vir dir is v2.0.50727

you have to configure your virtual directory to run under ASP.NET 1.1. If you dont see it in the ASP.NET Tab, you probably need to re-register NET 1.1 to IIS by running aspnet_regiis.exe in the folder C:\Windows|Microsoft NET Framework\.... choose NET 1.1

If I remember correctly my old PC used to always default to the 1.1 framework when I created a new .net solution, how can I get my PC to do this again.
If I have to configure the directory manualy then do I do this from the command prompt?
Kind Regards Bill Humphrey

Basically you right click on Website or Virtual Directory in IIS and choose property. you will see a ASP.NET tab. Click the tab and you can choose ASP.NET version in the drop down list ASP.NET version.
You probably reinstall IIS after NET 1.1 installed on your machine. If that's the case, NET 1.1 is no longer register to IIS so you need to run "aspnet_regiis.exex -i" again.
Hope this help!

This often happens when you running two version of .NET on the same computer. For example running .net 1.1 and .net 2.0. sometimes you also needs to remove the aspnet user before you can re-register asp.net. You an view this article for more details and
it has .bat file to re-register asp.net automatically for you without you having to do it in command prompt.
