I am running VS2008 standard on Vista Ultimate 64.
I have just received my copy of VS2008 and very excited, installed it and tried to create a new web project.... but nothing happens ?
I then created a new web application (VB), but am unable to edit any html or aspx page ??
So I tried installing the HotFix (KB946581) but that makes no difference at all.
The fact that MS is prepared to ship a product like this is a sad indictment of the current state of MS.

Can you please provide more information on what you are doing (step by step). Hotfix is unrelated, it addresses certain performance issues in the editor (which somewhat confirms that most users are able to edit pages [:)]

(1) Fire up VS 2008 Standard on Ultimate 64
(2) click File|New Web Site
(3) Nothing Happens, project is not created.
(1) Fire up VS 2008
(2) click File|New Project
(3) Select Web|ASP.NET Web Application
(4)Project is created
(5) Attempt to edit Default.aspx
(6) Default.aspx tab opens (Eventually), But is blank. Unable to switch between editing modes. Popping out tool box from left screen creates image ghosting of the toolbox as it closes on the window.
(7) Web.config opens fine
(9) My Project Opens fine
(10) That's it !

I can create a new web site in Visual Web Developer Express and it works fine. I cannot however, open that web site in VS2008 Standard.
If I create a new Silverlight project, it asks if I would like to create and add a web site (For hosting) within the Solution. If I try to do this, I get an error stating .webproj is not supported by this version of Visual Studio. (But it's supposed to be,

So I presume you have Silverlight tools installed? Which version? SL tools are still in preview, so there may be incompatibilities.

I Have MS Silverlight Tools Beta 1 (Was working fine under my trial version of VS2008 before it expired)
But this doesn't explain why VS2008 Standard won't create or work with a web site project without any silverlight in it.

Actually, it does. Silverlight tools replace Web project components with different version and modifies project templates, and this may be a problem. Try uninstalling SL tools. Check version of mswebprj.dll (it is in Common7\Packages), it should be 21022.08.

OK, Uninstalled VS Tools for Silverlight Beta and checked mswebprj.dll , my version is 21116.48
Uninstalling SL Tools had no change

This means SL tools uninstall did not actually restore component to the original RTM version. Perhaps repairing VS will help?

I tried that.. No luck
I am now removing every single MS development product from my PC including all sdk's and will then try completely re installing VS 2008 standard from scratch. sheesh !

OK, I've removed all MS development stuff and SDK's and re-installed VS2008 Standard.

I have such problems with Visual Standard 2008 Update (German Edition) and Vista Professional 64 too.
I can create a Default.aspx file, but as soon I switch the editing mode to "Entwurf" (design) or "Teilen" (split) VS hangs for ever.
mswebprj.dll is version 9.0.21022.8 (8.11.2007 17:26)
Only the very first time after setup my computer it works fine, but than never again. Even removing and reinstalling visual studio

Do you sufficient ram and disk space to create some Virtual Machine? If you are an MSDN subscriber, you will have access to both English and German versions of VS2008.

I also have the performance issue on VS 2008 . I have indtalled Hot fix still the same takes lot of time to open the studio & working on project is very slow.
Slow saving vs2008
Re: VS2008 HotFix made no difference

I have a lot of RAM (8 GB) and free disk space (>600 GB), but I'm not a MSDN subscriber and don't have a virtual maschine supporting 64 bit guests systems.

Hotfix is not available for international editions yet, sorry. It will be very soon though.

Hotfix does not address anything in IDE startup time. What is OS, how much memory and what it CPU type and speed?

I have RAM (1.5 gb) & free disc space about 100 GB. Operationg system Win XP Professional second edition.

What is specifically slow?

Hi Thanks for response.
While opening some web site or new or existing any type of file within the web it takes atleast 15 - 30 mins.
