Periodically I've been tasked with editing an XML file with Visual Studio 2003.
When I edit an attribute by typing a few characters, the cursor changes to an alternating hourglass/text-insertion tool that flickers very rapidly and consumes about 50% of processing resources. This happens for maybe 30 seconds or more, then stops and
I can edit more text.
I've found that if I click on a few scrollbars and move the mouse pointer to a different window and back a few times, I can cut the delay down to 5-10 seconds of flickering, but I'd like the issue to go away completely.
Any idea what's causing this issue and some way to fix it?

Hi Bleak Morn,
I would like to know whether you have installed service pack 1 for Visual Studio 2003. There is a know issue that edit the complex xml file in Visual Studio 2003 may experience high CPU usage.
The hotfix for this issue is included in the Visual Studio 2003 SP1. For more information, please refer to the following link.
