First challange I got is simply adding C++ program as reference to VB program. The error I get is "A reference to "C++Project"could not be added because it is not a device", even though both C++ and VB projects were created for a Pocket PC, which means
they were created for a smart device.
Also in addition to that I would like to know how programming for mobile devices differs from programming for desktop PC's and what should I watch out for.

For your first question, you can wrap c++ code as com, then use compact framework com interop to invoke it. There is a detail steps in below link:

For your second question, Since mobile device limitation, mobile program will pay attention to memory, power manager,cpu,etc. you can use compact framework to code it. compact framework is a part of full .net framework.
