I'm totally stuck concerning seo friendly localization.
I have about 10 localized pages on my website, which are translated and properly bound to resx files.
My target would be, that the user clicks a <menuItem> flag and the selected language e.g "fr" should be saved in a virtual folder like
After selecting the language, that virtual folder stays on every link available, means that robots crawls the complete site in that language.
I'm lost since after weeks of thinking about seo, I have so much stuff in my head like using querystrings, basepage or global.asax, urlRewriting, sitemaps files etc....
I just want to know: How to change language clicking an countryflag considering a proper search engine optimization.
Many many thanks for all your help

You need to append the selected language to the url as a virtual directory. This can be done by Url Rewriting. You can find a complete reference at
