I have an existing .wdproj and I would like to add this to my existing ASP.NET Web Application using Visual Studio 2005.

Based on my test, we cannot add an existing web deployment project via “Add | Existing Project…” because the .wdproj file type is not available in the “Add Existing Project” dialog.
In my opinion, the workaround is to create a new web deployment project for current web project (Add Web Deployment Project…), and then copy your existing .wdproj file to replace the new one. Hope it is helpful to you.

You are able to add an existing WDP project to your solution though it's not obvious. If you go to Add->Existing Project... you see that .wdproj is not listed in the dropdown list of supported file types. You get around that by navigating/browsing to the
folder that contains your WDP project file. Once there, type *.* as the file name. When you click Open, you see all the files in that folder, not only the filtered ones. Then you can choose your .wdproj file to add into the solution.
Hope this helps!
