I have a custom asp control which has a datasource (and also datamember and datatextfield) and I require that the developer be able to set the datasource property at design time (that is to say be provided with a modal or dropdown style to choose project
data sources). I have added the
attribute to the datasource property of the custom control, however, the datasource property appears greyed out in the form properties window. Please advise.

never mind - I am using 1.1 and therefore the attribute doesn't exist. New question - How do I persist the datasource property across viewstate at the very least - I tried storing the object (datatable) in viewstate and it ran an error saying the datatable
is not serializable - and anyway how can I store a datatable with 42,000 entries in viewstate (unless the viewstate only stores the pointer). Please help !

whatever child control is bound to the datasource will automatically retain its viewstate. Otherwise, in the unlikely event you need to retain data outside of a web server control you will have to add it to viewstate.
