After a server consolidation, I now have a web server that hosts both internal and external applications through a proxy server.
I created a new directory in inetpub called externalroot, in addtion to wwwroot. Wwwroot hosts the internal applications
and the externalroot directroy will host the external applications. I have an old VS2003 application that I need to have
accessed by the public, thus it needs to go in the externalroot diectory. I was just going to recreate the application on
the new server and copy the files in, but it seems VS2003 will only let me create a project in
which is only for internal use. Any suggestions on how I can create a VS2003 web application in another directory
other than C:\Inetpub\wwwroot?
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Depending a bit on what you want, you can either:
create a new website in the IIS MMC, and connecto to that one in Vs or
Or just create a virtual root, also in the MMC and connect to that.from Vs.

If you host two website on the same machine, you must use one of the following unique identifiers
• Host header name
• IP address
• TCP port number
For example, assume your “wwwroot” uses port 80 and “externalroot” uses port
81. If you want to create a web application in the “externalroot” website, you should create the project with the port number, such as “http://localhost:81/WebApplication1”
