I have a project that I want to migrate to 2005. However I get a "can't find server error" (404).
Do I need .Net 1.1 and IIS for it to work?

Well .. first make sure that before you upgrade to .NET 2.0 , your app is up and running-
After that make a back up copy and then try upgrading to .NET 2.0
Please find below a guide to aid the conversion process

Well, it is like this. I got the project from someone else, and I know it worked with 1.1.
So: must it be up and running with 1.1 before I can make the upgrade? My question was if I need 1.1 and IIS for it to work with VS 2005 and .Net 2.0.

No my intention was to ensure that you had something working before the upgrade. This would ensure that all the errors ( if you see any) are all related to the upgrade and not preexisting ones.
Also you do not need 1.1 framework & IIS if you are planning to upgrade it to 2.0. You could use the built in webserver

So do you have any idea why I would get the "not found server" 404 or 500 error?

Did u try upgrading and running it in visual studio.net 2005? Does that work and are you getting the error when you post the website files to the server?

I opened the project in VS2005 and the upgrade went quite well with a few problems. I still can't run it though.

Couple of things to check
1. Are you running it under localhost?- If so make sure you have it set to use .NET 2.0 framework
2. Set a page as a default page and try debugging..
Wish I could be more helpful , but trying to debug something when you aren't looking at the code is a totally different story. Hope you are able to get it fixed and Happy a merry Christmas

Thank you and a Merry christmas to you too.[:)]
How can I check if I'm running it under localhost and how do I know it is 2.0?

To see if you are running under local host... Start--> Run-->inetmgr . You should see your website listed under default website.
If you find it there, right click and select properties. Go to the ASP.NET tab . You should see the current framework for the website listed there
