HI. I am using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition and I can't get breakpoints to work. I can set them and I get no error messages but execution does not stop at them. I have also noticed that after I start debugging (with F5 or pressing the play key)
I don't have the ability to stop or break as the buttons are greyed out. I have to close IE. I can start multiple sessions each with it's own random port (http://localhost:50741/BreakPointTest/) but I can't
break. Any help would be apperciated. Thanks.

Try adding your coputer (localhost) to the local intranet in Internet Options | Security. Also, add it as a trusted site. I had this same issue with Visual Studio 2005 and its built in Development Server. I think the fix for me was the second thing I
mentioned, adding localhost as a trusted site, but try both. Let me know if that helped.

There could be a number of things, if you are in vista you need to run visual studio with elevated permissions.
You also need to run in debug mode and not release mode
Lastly make sure you have <compilation
debug="true" > in your web.config file.
If it's not one of those then come back and ask again.

Thanks for the input. I have it working now. The key was in Internet Options | Security. I could not add localhost as a trusted site because it required that a trusted site was https. However, I lowered the security level for the local intranet and the
thing that did it was unchecking "Enable Protected Mode".

Thank You very very much. Unchecking "Enable Protected Mode" was the key.
