I've done programming at college and uni but I am fairly new at building websites. I am however up for the challenge and trying to build a website and thought I would use a club site starter kit to get me started. Ive got the original club site starter
kit going however i wanted to try out the Codeplex and the extended versions - I am however a bit confused i've downloaded the zip file containing the codeplex and unzipped it but what do i do with it now? Do I need to install it some how or combine it with
the original club site starter kit or can i run it as a website of its own? As when i go to create new website using Visual Web developer express i can see the club site starter kit but there is no codeplex version.
Basically what do i do with the files once i've unzipped it? I do have to put them some where?

The Codeplex version is not a vsi, so basically add a folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\WebSites(this is probably were the original is)
Then read set up instructions on the Codeplex site

I wonder why people are so obsessed with VSIs and can't use a regular ZIP!?

Apologise in advance for being a noobie, but i could do with a bit of help on the instructions on the Codeplex site. I managed instruction 1 fine, but on instruction 2 it says -
Edit the application settings
Open the web.config file in the root of the website. You have one choice to make in the app settings, whether or not you want to host your photos on the file system or your database.
Ok so i've found the web.config file, opened it and located the app settings part which is:
or False (must be Title case) -->
And I believe the bit your supposed to edit is instead of it saying true you put a path name of where you want to store the images? Right well firstly what images are these? Secondly what difference does it make if i point it to the file system or the
database? And im afraid I dont know how to point it to either [:(] so how do I do that?

I would have to look to make sure, but I believe a folder should already exist for the photos as does the tables in the database, so you should just need to choose which you plan to use, the choice between a file system or database is usally one of preference,
this is most often determined by how many photos you plan to post on your site, most web hosting companys only offer 200 megs of Database space as apposed to 2 to 10 gig for webspace, so as you can see a file based system would allow for alot more photos.

Hi again (thank you so much for help so far)
I think ive done instruction 2 (fingers crossed)
Instruction 3 - am I right in thinking cant be done until your website is actually published online?
Instruction 4 - i've followed the link for DAL classes to
http://www.codeplex.com/ClubStarterKit/Wiki/View.aspx?title=SubSonic%20-%20Express%20Version&referringTitle=Documentation and it says this:
Open your website up to the ~/dev/generators.aspx page. Select your output directory (It MUST be a file directory), your language, click "All" under tables, click "All" under views, and click Generate.
See... that wasn't so bad!
- right now i've opened the file generations.aspx from the dev folder and I think this is the bit im supposed to edit:
The language bit i edit is just by changing the C# to VB? What I dont understand is where the bit im supposed to edit for the 'output directory' is? Which line of code do
I edit? And what do you recommend editing it to?
Thanks very much

I am assuming you are using v3 express, right? The output directory is the directory on your harddrive. You have to run the tool locally and not on a production setting.

Well I got it to run, however as soon as i run it - i get a bunch of errors and stuff - is this normal? Or am i doing something wrong?
