i recently discovered my web server was running a beta version of asp.net 2.0, so i uninstalled that and installed the redistributable package of 2.0 from download.microsoft.com. now iis won't realize .net 2.0 is installed at all, but just serves 1.1. and
there's also no asp.net configuration tab in the properties of my virtual catalogues.
i know .net 2.0 is installed, since it shows up in add/remove programs, and since the folder c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\2.0.50727 is full of stuff, but why is it not working?
to see the error message - look at www.bk3.se/example.aspx. it says 1.1 on the bottom. (the marked line in the source code means "this is no real code and will therefore not work")

Run the aspnet_regiis command to register the .NET 2.0 on your IIS.
Open run and type 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i'
this will fix the problem and you will be able to see the Version 2 in the IIS properties window.

i've now run the command you told me to, but there's still no tab for asp.net in iis. i'm running iis6 on win2003 server edt. is there anything else i need to do?
or is this problem version-related to iis and windows? on my local machine i have xp with iis 5.1, and then there's a tab with asp.net options in properties for each virtual directory... why can't i see it on the server?

try to reinstall the IIS and run the command again.

after further looking into this, i noticed that the server was in fact parsing with the correct .net version - only the configuration tab didn't show up in iss. since the actual parsing is working, this problem is no longer that severe. thank you!
(however, i would still like to be able to see the asp.net configuration through iis if possible. is there any way i can get that tab to appear?)

You can follow this thread http://forums.asp.net/p/1050118/1481851.aspx#1481851
Also you can use this tool to switch the IIS version
