I would recommend you stay away from MySQL if you can, the performance and reliability lacks in comparison to SQL Server 2005. There are plenty of hosts who don't charge much, or anything extra for using MS SQL over MySQL. Let me know if there's anything
I can recommend or help you with.

There are two options for overcoming the cost of sql 2005:
1) Use SQL 2005 Express databases. However, while deployment, you will need to make sure that your hosts does support SQL 2005 Express databases otherwise you will not be able to use it.
2) Use MySQL Databases :: There is MySQL Visual Studio Plugin available which helps you integrate MySQL with Visual studio IDE. You can have a look and download it
You can find the plans for both the above options with
SoftSys Web Hosting.

Thank you for your info and advice. I'll download the MySQL Visual Studio Plugin and experiment with it for a while.
I may eventually end up just sticking to the hosting with sql2005 you have indicated.

You may try http://www.AspSpider.com which is free for ASP.NET developers. We support SQL Server 2005 Express and ASP.NET 2.0/3.0.

Thank you Tony.
I have already registered as a member in AspSpider and have been trying out asp.net application there.
My only concern is that you may not allow commercial use in your free hosting.
Thanks & regards
