Im starting research for a new program I need to write that will display a real-time line chart of production data throughout the day. It has to be done without Ajax.net (we don't have it on our server yet and won't for a while) and I know this can be
done with silverlight but our company isn't there yet either. However, asp.net 2 and clientcallbacks is ok for me. Is this possible? I have never drawn on the web using anything other than Flash.
Im guessing I will need to create a fixed size bitmap image to display on the web and use that image's size to plot and connect points...I think. Any suggestions or ideas would be great. Also, how taxing would it be on the server if this is a real-time
graph pulling data every few seconds...I think(we haven't decided yet on refresh timings). Would this need to run on its own dedicated server? If you have any idea how to draw line charts in real-time using asp.net please let me know. Thanks.

Your best bet would be to purchase a charting library. Why reinvent the wheel?

Any charting library suggestions then that can do real-time charting and arent expensive? We would still prefer to do it ourselves.

I have not done any charting in a while but here are a few that I know of.
