It should be a simple task but adding a web deployment project to my site doesn't work. I'm using VS2005 SP1
I open the website via File->Open->Web Site and Remote site and successfully open the site from the development server. I can add/edit and work on the site without problems.
I try to add a WDP via the Build menu and when I click on Add Web Deployment Project nothing happens. Looking at http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2005/11/06/429723.aspx I see that I should get a prompt to enter a name and location.
If I try it again the option is now gone from the menu!
could this be a bug, corrupt install or am I missing something about how web deployment projects work?

From your description, I understand that you open a remote website project via File | Open | Web Site and then Remote Site. You find you cannot add web deployment project for that project. If I have any misunderstanding, please let me know.
Based on my research, this issue is by design that Web Deployment Projects do not support remote FrontPage or FTP Web sites. For more information about Web Deployment Project, please refer to the following link:
