I'm trying to understand precisely how the sample control panel works so I can modify it to suit our needs.
Does anyone know if some developer documentation is available somewhere?

As far as I am aware there isn't any...well not that I have come across anyways.
SampleUI isn't the easiest application to reverse engineer and figure out whats going on.
It written in a way so you can "easily" add extra service modules to increase functinality. Each service module is an acsx web control.
Also, it my not be the best app to start with to write a UI from. It does have some massive failins I am afraid.

Thanks for your help Steve. You're right, there's probably no documentation for the sample UI.
Even the Web Service documentation lacks in details and examples.
If the sample UI is not the best app to start with, do you think it's feasable to write a control panel from scratch (in asp.net)
while keeping the authentification and permission schemes and the service modules implementation ?

The dev would need to have a reasonable level of asp.net experience as some of the service module code isn't the easiest.
The time it will take to write something will completely depend on what functionality you would want to add to the sample panel. The current SampleUI has very very very little functionality exposed.

I'll definitely give it a try.
I'll keep the ServiceModuleBaseUserControl class, Login.aspx and some XML and I'll implement some interfaces. I guess that would be a good core structure.
