I'm doing volunteer work on a new web site for a small non-profit in Arizona. When they established, they chose EarthLink business hosting as part of an overall package that included an account with a credit card agent. EarthLink has been a good answer
for them, but now that they are getting more business-oriented, there are some limitations to that service that are obstacles, but the upside remains that the site is very FAST on that server.
I haven't used shared hosting in a couple of years and all of them I liked then seem to be gone. I'd like to ask for some recommendations.
Here's what they need:
- ASP.NET 2.0
- Four sub-domains
- Access databases
- A minimum of 2GB of monthly bandwidth
- Mailng list capable of accepting/broadcasting to their 5,000-subscriber addresses
- At least 1 GB of storage
- One dedicated IP Address
Their most important requirement is network response: they are graphics intensive. In the past, I have leased dedicated servers and used VPS systems -- from some high $$ services offered by very highly regarded companies -- and have always found the n/w
speed to be a disappointment; some were no faster than the DSL I use for my development/test server (throttled at 864KB), some were slower than that.
Price will also be a factor for them.
