i have installed Visual studio 2005 professional edition but when i go to make a new project then i do not find the business intelligence projects in order to make DTS package for sql server 2005 so my question how can i install Business intelligence development

your help is highly appreciated

Business Intelligence Management Studio is part of SQL Server and DTS is now SSIS(sql server integration service) and yes part of the BI Management Studio. If you have the SQL Server developer edition CD/DVD copy the content to your hard drive and rerun
setup and choose repair because you may have installed the first Management Studio, but SSIS comes with the BI version which is the second Management Studio. SSIS is not like DTS it is a full ETL(extraction transformation and loading) tool, I have answered
questions related to the service in another thread, read it and post again if you have more questions. Hope this helps.

I told you in my first reply that BI Management Studio is separate from Visual Studio 2005 and you don't need to remove Express because it is not part of Express. You only get BI Management Studio with the Developer edition which you get free when you buy
the Visual Studio 2005 Professional. I think that you may have installed it and looking in the wrong place. So rerun setup and choose repair and you will get to choose components make sure you choose all components. I repeat you need to look for BI Management
Studio if it is not there repair your SQL Server Developer installation and choose all components. Hope this helps.

You were saying that we need to rerun setup.exe or vs_setup.exe. I already have VS 2005 installed.
I still cannot see my BIDS. Any idea how to make it work without uninstalling the whole thing?

I am not able to see the "Business Intelligence Projects" option in the VS 2005. But when i try to run the MS SQL Server 2005 Setup, it says all the components including Business Intelligence develoment studio were already installed. After looking at the
above message, i went ahead and ran the vs_setup.exe. I still don't see the BI projects option in my VS 2005. Is there any way to make sure that BI is installed in my machine? If could you please let me know. Also i'd really appreciate if you could help get
my VS 2005 show the BI projects option. Thanks in Advance.

I tried going through this install procedure and it kept asking me for the sqlrun_tools.msi file from y SQL Express edition install. Since I installed SQL Express from the VS2005 CD download from my MSDN account, it could not find this feature. I tried pointing
it to my recently downloaded SQL 2005 Developer edition, but that failed as well. Originially, I installed VS2005 Pro and all the components and updates for Vista x64 business. When I launched VS2005, the business intelligence project types were missing. I
then had to uninstall SQL 2005 Express and install the client components with the newly downloaded SQL 2005 developer edition setup.exe.
Hope that helps.

I did exactly what dafeizhu and it resolve this case for me
It appears than even if I selected those option at first installation of my MS SQL Serveur they wasn't installed when I redo this operation at step 3. Why ? Don't know and I waste enoph time on installing this fonctionnality.

I had the same issue as well. Even the steps you mentioned above didn't help me coz while I tried to install components I was giving an error that file "sqlrun_tools.msi" file is missing and even I locate the file in the N/W; that didn't recognize the file.
So I copied the Setup folder from N/W to my local drive and install the SQL Server 2005 from scratch with all the feature (custom selection and choosing "ENTIRE FEATURES WILL BE INSTALLED ON LOCAL HARD DRIVE", everything works.
Even I could see "Business Intelligence Projects" link on Visual Studio 2005" with all the associates templates.

I had the same problem and can able to solve it by performing following steps
Go to Control Panel->Add/Remove Programe->Sql Server 2005->Uninstall
Now uncheck Sql Server and check sql server Components to uninstall
After uninstallation You can install BIDS and all other components from sql server 2005 Disk 2

Thank you Dafeizhu,
Sometimes we don't realize something so basic could solve our issues. I was looking all over to find a way to add features and it was as simple as clicking "Change" in the Add/Remove programs in the control panel!
