Here is a link to a couple of different techiques for rounded corners, and they don't use graphics.
Very, very cool stuff.

And how do you exactly make this working with CSS Adapters Menu control? I guess some changes to the adapter code are neccessary, to inject additional tags? Where would the code go in that case?
The bulk of the adapter code is in a folder called "Adapters" in the App_Code folder of the applciation. The file names are self-explanitory, so I'm sure you could find the one for the menus.
Read through all the code in the file, and then you'll start to see how it works. Find the part that outputs the HTML tags for the menus, and insert whatever else you need.
Frankly, if you haven't had much experience digging around in source code it may be a little too much. There is certainly no harm in creating a new project, so you have a copy of the files, and then experimenting with it. The worst thing that could happen
is you just delete the file when you're done, so if you've got the time, give it a whirl. Just experiment on an ultra-simple menu, so you can eliminate the app itself as a source of complication.
