An aspx page contains two object graphs. One is raw HTML which is essentially
junk until its arrived at the browser. The other contains the server side controls. Much of making computer programming easier entails breaking down systems into smaller independent parts. So why not have a new type of document view that only shows
the server side controls? It doesn't have to make sense from a design view, just from the mark up side.
I think the worst aspect of asp.net programming is wading into an aspx file trying to find server controls which are swallowed up in a forest of HTML junk. So hide it or even just fade the html down a bit.
