I have tried to install the starter kit to no avail. I keep getting an error:
"A problem occured while running the installer. Please contact the content author for problems with the content. Error message: String cannot have zero length"
This is the case for all vsi's that i try to install.
Thanks for any help

You can download the Visual Web Developer 2005 from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vwd/
Let me know if you continue to face installation issues.

I can't install - I get the message "Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Microsoft.VisualStudio.Zip.EULACommentForm.resources" was correctly embedded or linked..."
I have successfully installed other starter kits - eg the Club Site.

Same problem here. VWD 2005 with SP1, XP Pro with SP2, Slovenian language.

I have been unable to recreate the issue in the EN-US language.
Which language are your VWD 2005 and Windows XP ?

some install issues might be due to service pack 1 (beta)
it seems to happen for all of the VSI files i have tried
this is all i have been able to find so far:
"If one tries to install one the starter kit under Visual Studio 2005 with service luggage 1 beta 1 the installation with the error
Could emergency fails finds any resources appropriate for the specified culure or the neutrally culture. Make sure “Microsoft.VisualStudio.Zip.EULACommentForm.resources” which correctly embedded or linked into assembly “Microsoft VisualStudio.Zip”
RK compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required acres loadable and fully signed. (at least I had the error at the “club web site starter kit”, but I go of it out of that it a general problem with starter kit and possibly also with other
.VSI files is.)"

I must say I am not familiar with gacutil and maybe there is some override switch?

I am trying to recreate the issue you are facing. The problem seems to be related to the fact that on a machine running Windows XP on Slovenian language, VWD is unable to find the localized resource files. It should be using the default "fall-back" resource
files but that is not happening.
Having said that, can you provide the base version language of the
Windows XP Home that you are using. If I am gathering it right, you installed Slovenian Language Pack over a Windows XP Home, correct ?

it is XP Professional SP 2 on HP nw8240. And I installed Multiple Language Pack which comes on HP DVDs. Can you direct me to some command I should issue to provide you with the information you required?
Oct 27, 2006 08:00 PM|mirtariq|LINK
I was able to recreate the problem on Visual Web Developer 2005 + Service Pack 1 (beta) + Windows XP Professsional with Slovenian Language Pack
Source: The source of the problem was the Service Pack 1 (beta) for Visual Web Developer 200
Fix: The fastest fix is to uninstall Visual Web Developer 2005 completely. Then reinstall it. And not install the SP1.
Note: If you need to install SP 1, do so after installing the starter kits. I will notify the VWD of this issue.
Appologies for the trouble.Hope this resolves the issue.

Sorry to inform you but it does not resolve the issue for me. Uninstalled the VWD as suggested, reinstalled and it still advertises itself as patched version (SP.050727-3600). I have also VB Express with SP1 beta installed. Is it related?
I don't have time now to pursue this any further. I can use the VWD with SP1 beta without any other problem and I am satisied with that.
Thanks anyway, Mir!

Yes the problem seems to be with the SP1 beta - both for VWD and Visual Studio Pro. Probably with the other versions too.
It does not seem to be related to the language of the OS - I am using Win XP US version.

Any update on this issue ?
I tried your suggestion above, and was still unable to install the Small Business starter kit after re-installing VWD (without SP1)

Mike - not sure why you're facing the installation issue. Are you getting the same error message ?
Please provide as much relevant details as possible.

Hello, this is Angelika from Germany.
I am sorry to say that my husband an I have exactly the same error message on or computers, when we try to run the smallbusiness starter kit.
On my machine I am running the German Windows XP Professional Version 2002 with SP2 and Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition (in English).
Maybe this helps to isolate the problem better...
Nov 28, 2006 10:54 PMfirstname.lastname@example.org|LINK
Well, I unistalled VS (which I had installed SP1) and then reinstalled, without SP1.
I still received the same message as before ie.."Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Microsoft.VisualStudio.Zip.EULACommentForm.resources" was correctly embedded or linked..."
I have successfully installed the kit on another PC without SP1.
Let me know what else you need to know.
anything else I need to clean out when I uninstall ?

Has anyone any ideas on how this can be resolved or esculated as it seems to be affecting a large number of people, me included.

When trying to install this starter kit, I was getting the same error mentioned in this thread ("Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Microsoft.VisualStudio.Zip.EULACommentForm.resources" was
correctly embedded or linked")
I got it to work by
1. Extract the content of the .vsi with Winrar (it's three files, smallbusiness.vscontent and two zip-files)
2. Made a new zip-file Smalbusiness2.zip with winrar, and added the three files to it
3. Renamed Smalbusiness2.zip to Smalbusiness2.vsi and ran it.
It worked, don't ask me why.

I just did the same thing...worked for me too...
Go to the WinRar site and run the eval copy of their product...follow e1v's instructions...it worked immediately for me then...
