I am trying to code a treeview control for asp.net that I can use to show/select/edit AD values. I want to start with a small thing and work up to the extensive stuff. My first goal is to show a treeview that is dynamically generated from AD via an LDAP
query or similar technology. I prefer to do all of this in vb.net/ASP. I have been coding in vb.net 2003 until today, which today I just received Visual Studio Pro 2005. I will move everything over to it and am starting all new development on that platform.
Anyway, I want to start with a basic tree that is dynamic and that I can select a value and use that value for other processing. My first easy goal is to populate the tree with my OU structure and have the ability to select an OU. When I select the OU, I
need to be able to use that value (likely DN) to run another process on it. I have this working in vb.net 2003 in a compiled app. I have the tree working and populating down to a certain AD level. The problem I have with it is that it does not enumerate
the whole tree and I cannot seem to get the DN from selecting something on the tree.
In asp.net with VS2005, I cannot even get a value assigned to a tree. I have tried using the same tactics I use in my vb.net app to the asp.net app, but it does not work. I have tried tons of different ways to get this to work, but everything I do either
errors with a page cannot be displayed or displays a blank page.
Once I get this working, I want to expand it by including sub-objects like users and possibly add a drag'n'drop ability. But again, this is WAY down the road.
As for now, I just want to get any tree displayed and then get it populated from AD.
Any ideas/examples/help appreciated.
