Is it possible to have a DropDownList to be a specific width, lets say 200px, when it is closed/collapsed, but have it expand to it's largest string size when opened/expanded? Reason being I would like to place a DropDownList in a relatively narrow column
but would like it's contents to be fully visible when expanded.
Thanks in advance.

1) Don't actually widen the dropdownlist, but show the selected item in a
tooltip (yes, I know the pop culture content is old). Of course this still only shows you the selection, though you could add a tooltip that shows the whole list all the time...
2) Use a third-party control like
EasyListBox, which gives you a ton of other advantages as well, like autocomplete, multiselect behavior in a dropdownlist, etc. Alternatively you could write your own, but that would probably put a major dent in your development budget.
