I need to ask if any of you has any knowledge of creating file thumbnails on the fly. I have found a free component but it works only for PDF files, PDFThumbnailer. But my requirement is to convert PDF/DOC/TF/TXT/XLS/PTT files
to thumbnails on the fly, and if possible allow to save it as an image for later reference which currently PDFThumbnailer doesnt allow. PDFThumbnailer takes the pdf file and renders an image for it on browser, if that image can also be saved somehow to my
machine that would be great too.
Please guide me of how to achieve the above requirements. Any help for any filetype is appreciated.

An option here can also be that we first convert our MSOffice file to a PDF and then use the same component to show a thumbnail of the PDF. So if someone can help with providing some component or help to convert DOC/RTF/XLS/PPT to PDF that should do.

I have heard of people having succes with making thumbnail images of PDF files using the Adobe Acrobat 5.0 SDK, however I cannot find the Windows distribution of it, only the UNIX distribution.
I would imaging this is also possible with Acrobat 6.0 and 7.0 SDKs however they both require a subscription to the Adobe developer network from what I have seen.
I also know there are some 3rd party components available that can do all that you seem to require, however they seem to run between 300-500$.
Try a Google search for "PDF Thumbnail" thats how I found most of what I have.
Hope that helps some.
