I am thinking on advertising my site on DotNetNuke.com, and I understand that the lowest price to do that is 400$ for gold benefactor. The thing is that I earn such an amount in about 1 year of running my BuildPortal.com site - What I want to ask is if any
of you that advertised here using gold benefactor have seen a dramatic increase in traffic to their sites.

In a community with such a strong "free" mentality, I wouldn't expect it to pay off that way. There are simply more hobbyists and fewer corporate purchasers in the mix. Your corporate purchasers are probably getting their DNN from local(?) consultants
who evaluate, install, support, custom code, & offer other services. (Almost none of our clients EVER think about going direct...) Page-hits in this community can be VERY misleading....my company supports DOZENS of others where we've put in DNN! So my single
page-hit is really proxy for lots of other potential buyers...
Where I'd expect sponsorship might pay off is as a differentiator. If I'm looking for a module for a client, and I find two with similar functionality....then reputation plays a more important role. I've certainly advocated purchases from Core Team members
and from other active community members--sometimes even over initially cheaper options. But your goods & services need to be in the ballpark, to have drawn my attention in the first place...
