And what is the exact issue? This is based on a provider model so I would expect controls to be insensitive to the exact mechanism that is used behing the scene (or the view state compressor have some problem ? not sure which one you are using ?)
My first thought would be to do a test with alternate built in providers and see what happens. If it still happens it could be an issue that should be fixed on the control side. If it works it could be an issue in the view state compressor you are using.

Another option could be to use http compression.
