Opening in a new window will be an option at one point. There is a fairly large User Experience issue here. One of the tenets of decent UI design is that the user experiences exactly what they expect to and the UI does no more than design dictates. In this instance the user expects to go somewhere within the site. Instead a user gets a new window and destination. Meanwhile back on the site we have an empty tab. The challenge here is to actually rewire the link itself and avoid the whole tab movement thing as this is not needed or desired in this instance. This might be well best accomplished with an http rewrite and a global skin object. I'm still dwelling on how best to deal with off site linking via tab links to new browsers. Currently my reckoning is that this is a different module/object as the task is somewhat different.
