Besides the FAQ section we also used to have a dedicated wiki. In the beginning it was a nice place to scour for information but overtime unfortunately, likely because you got recognition points, the quality deteriorated and sometimes there were full blown
copy pastes of legitimate material without linking to the original. Basically it got shut down in the end.
I'm in favor of some form of showing to the community that you "upped" a reply as it has a good answer in it. However I don't want to see people getting recognition points for it as then some points happy people will likely start "upping" replies like crazy
just to get more points. It should be community driven and the intention should be that good/better answers are indicated as such.
For the moderators link I would prefer to see some icon like a red/orange flag. There are a bunch of helpful members already that form that social control but it would be great if there was a bit more social control so we can better focus on the things going
"wrong" in this community. I've been around here for quite some years and like the atmosphere around here.
I'm also in for the comments part. It's always bad to see, and I do it myself as well, replies with: please provide more information / code / ... That would go ideally into a comment. However again: I don't think comments should be able to gain recognition
points. In the past we didn't have the points system. I think it got introduced in 2007 something.
