I just set-up 2 servers, each running Active Directory (Machine 1 - primary, Machine 2 - replicating).
As a test, On machine 1, I created a simple (html only) ASP.NET page in Visual Studio and ran it both with a private address (http://localhost/default.aspx) and with a public address (http://domainname.com/default.aspx)
and it ran fine both ways.
My second test was to add a datagrid to the default.aspx page that connects to an SQL server running on machine 2. This page runs fine when I run it with the private address (http://localhost/default.aspx) but
returns the following error when I run it with the public address (http://domainname.com/default.aspx) .
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'DomainName\MachineName$'.
Not being familiar with Active Directory, I don't understand what is going on between ASP.NET and Active Directory. Using DomainName\IWAM_MachinName, DomainName\IUSR_MachinName or NT Authority\Network Service either does not work, or I have not set it up
correctly for Active Directory.
Anyone done something like this before or have any suggestions for me?
