This is a great example of the ease with which you can extend the IDE and runtime to get what you need. On this thread we have been focused on "robust tools" on the market, and the existence of those tools out of the box.
Of course you can build your own, extend the IDE, build custom expressions, build custom resource providers to get what you need. This example you refer to also yeilds the limitations of "build your own".
* you have to write more code to handle resource fallback
* you have to think about your database design for resources, and make sure you can have pages with the same name in different subdirectories, etc (naming conventions, design issue)
So taking this sample, and giving some extra thought to implementation could yeild wonderful custom results. I have some work in progress examples for resource providers and custom expressions and IDE integration...but have been a little busy with my WCF book
so haven't been focused soley on globalization lately...I will clean those samples up in preparation to write a paper for Microsoft in the next few months. I will gladly post the code on my blog when I'm done, before I write the paper.
