If we wanted to read and write to a remote server, what permissions would we need and what user account to specify? Thanks in advance

On the remote server, you want to give the directory that is being read and written to the Network Service user with modify permissions. This can be done from Windows Explorer. If it is a 'NIX box, set permission settings via FTP to 664.
