These are direct links, not affiliate links. Just i had it my file, so pasted here it will be of use.
You can do a domain whois in domaintools.com to find their servers. Few of the companies have their own datacenter like
brinkster.com, 1and1.com, ixwebhosting , godaddy.com.
Some companies even if they have datacenter from theplanet and softlayer.. they provide good support and uptime.
I will add the dedicated server providers list as well. There are many companies to add....

include www.hostinguk.net on your list and 123reg - hostinguk are really good - not sure what 123reg's hostings like as i've never personally used it however
1and1 are crap as dediservers host. only time their support got back to me quickly (within a couple of days!) was when i asked how i went about canceling my contract so yea... low opinion i have of them :).

Middle East
Asia
South America
Australia / NZ
Most hosts are only in the USA so its good to know who services clients locally.

Hello,
Shared and reseller Hosting accounts are normally on the server were server resourse are shared with other customers
websites as well only difference is on shared account you can have only one control panel access domain for main domain
While in reseller panel you can create your clients account assign them space and other varible.
With VPS and dedicated server you get full root access. VPS is like small budget server will limited resources. While dedicated,
server have high performance and resource are much better than VPS.

No doubt its pretty much helpful list, especially for the newbies. I am using hosting services from last five year, but i think most of the even top ranking hosting companies, failed some times to provide quality technical support.

Tamil coders its a great information for us but can you groups these hosting providers companies in groups as UltimaHosts.com said so it will be more beneficila for us.
for example I am from India so I want to support from companies as my own manner via phone (Local or STD not ISD) or chat but in my own language. If I can purchase a hosting from godaddy then it will be a tough job to get support for me than local companies of india. So please distinguish them accordding their countries for service...

I can create the list according to regions, shared, reseller, vps , dedicated hosting but that one thread will be like huge web page. I am not sure whether moderator would approve it.
On the other hand more than 80% of the hosting data center is from US. No matter whether the company, it is from Pakistan, or India.. Their datacenters are from US
It is a known fact all these companies( have datacenter from theplanet, rackspace, and softlayer).
There are few indian companies like ucvhost, they are in business for a long time. But guess their datacenter is from US naturally, So eventhough i group the hosting according to regions , all end up in US DATACENTERS. MAY BE A FEW FROM LONDON, GERMANY AND AUSTRALIA.
So that is the reason, i just categorized viz shared, reseller, vps and dedicated.
Hope i am explaining well.
I will try to create a new list again region specific.

I am looking for a web hosting which provides reasonable response time to people in Korea. Currently my site is hosted at discountasp.net but it takes 10~15 seconds to display each page. From Australia, my web site is fast enough. It means the problem seems to be at its ISP not at discountasp.net.
anyone have experience to host an e commerce site targeting Korea or Far East asia?

You're best option is to look for a host in Korea or Far East Asia. The reason you are seeing the delay is most likely due to your distance from the data center.

there is very interesting thing as below:
I made one of my computers hosting e commerce site at my home (Sydney, Australia). Ironically this one doesn't have any latency from Korea. During testing it took half second or mostly less than 1 second to display a shopping cart page. by the way other web hosts in Australia rendered thier pages around 5~10 seconds from Korea.
(from Korea) Most hosting companies have 14~16 hops for tracert from Korea to their main web sites. But one company (softsys) only has 11 hops something. do you think softsys might be better than others?

I have tested all providers in the list and only one provider doesn't have much latency (Pinging didn't help but tracert including host-tracker.com seems to help to narrow down the list). It is serverintellect. I have a trial now and its speed and service is quite good. 24 hour phone support is available and it is especially good for overseas businesses.
With discountasp.net, every page in my web site is loaded in 10~16 seconds from Korea but with serverintellect it takes only less than 2 seconds, mostly just within a second.
[Please be advised that discountasp.net is a good provider as well. However its network provider is bad enough in the matter of connecting Asia. For example, for Australian users my web site hosted in the firm runs very well.]

It should be remembered that a provider can have more than one location so testing latency to their website isn't really conclusive. You would need to contact each provider and attain all test ips from their various locations (ie USA, Canada, UK , EU, Asia, Australia, India etc)

Hostdepartment.com is worst host ever seen in my life..
if your going to host only HTML pages then it is good, but if u r planning to host an asp.net site/application then it is the worst place ever..
1. their asp.net always crach and IIS disconnect suddenly
2. high down time, i remember two month ago company site was down for more than 24 hour, (they said it is coz of cold and ice..) no backup data center all our emails where stoped (we host our site there also we use their DNS for mapping our exchange which hosted locally) this regardless the side down time like one hour, few minutes etc...
3. Slowest SQL server.
4. quick useless support..! they answer u but they know nothing about servers or admin work nor technology..., i struggle alot with them for script mapping in IIS (for gif and jpeg images to be mapped to the .net dll) with no luck then we had to change the entire way we store and retrieve images.
I'm here today coz i'm looking for a good host to replace HOSTDEPARTMENT.
