(For ASP.Net 2.0)
I have a excel template in a folder reside inside our website. i need to write values from my dataset to this excel file and save it a copy and send to the client. (possibly i may need to write some macros in the excel i am populating). my problem is i need
to do this where no excel is installed.
i tried using interops.excel, but its creating excel instances in server which i feel risky to do coz its expected many users may access the website.
please suggest some solutions.

There are only 2 ways other than Interop that support macros:

An interop is just a patway to the actual excel object. Without excel installed on the server, your code will not work, with the interop. But there is a solution for your challenge
Starting with office 2003 (maybe 2000 also), office documents have an xml format specification. If you follow the xml format specification, you can create documents that will open in excel.
You may not be able to use the template directly, but if you construct the correct xml format for an excel file, your end users will be able to open the file in excel.
