Just wanted to know of any good books on ASP.NET. I've used ASP.NET before but only briefly and now want to take it to another level. I've bought
' ASP.NET Unleashed' by Stephen Walther but I havent found it that useful yet as its only a reference. Does anyone know of any good books that have helped them through development . Although I'm a beginner, I dont want a book that is too basic in order
to throw it away after a few months. Apart from books what would be the best way to get into ASP.NET? Also does anyone know of any good C# books for beginners?
3) and buy member ship at http://www.learnvisualstudio.net/ - they have tons of very good videos for everyone. I have lifetime membership with them for few years now & i always find something interseting there
Wrox and Apress have the best of authors. Plus..... they have a huge range of books.
I suggest you to pick up few good books, read them and move for other book. You will learn few good things from all the books you read. One book and one author is not sufficient for a massive asp.net.
Keep a tab on amazon, wrox and apress and other sites for books.
I've gotten used to the Wrox layout of their books. I generally prefer them for beginner and mid-level topics. No one has really wow'd me from an advanced topics perspective yet. Maybe Apress but I need more books than I have to judge.
There are quite a few books on ASP.NET 2.0 that wrox publishes. Does anyone know which ones are the best for beginners? Have you used any of them? What's your verdict? Please give your thoughts as I will need to buy one.
When you feel your self litle comfortable in the above two book then go for UNLEASHED asp.net 2.0(This is a very good book with an indepth knowlege of every topic) I donot remember the publisher. You just tell the name Unleashed and they will understand.there
is only one book in the market with that name.
I've got shelves full of ASP.NET books (Amzon loves me, and as long as I occasionally order some sappy romance who-dunnit for her, my wife still does too...). Most used is still
ASP.NET Unleashed by Walther. It's an okay learning book but it's a phenomenal reference. My personal preference when learning were (still are):
ASP.NET 2.0 Website Programming: Problem - Design - Solution by Marco Bellinaso Professional ASP.NET 2.0 Special Edition by Bill Evjen, Scott Hanselman, Devin Rader, and Farhan Muhammad Professional ASP.NET 2.0 by Bill Evjen, Scott Hanselman, Farhan Muhammad, and Srinivasa Sivakumar Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 in VB 2005: From Novice to Professional by Matthew MacDonald ASP.NET 2.0 All-In-One Desk Reference For Dummies by Doug Lowe, Ken Cox, and Jeff Cogswell
Either of the Professional ASP.NET 2.0 will be okay, you don't really need both. I like Wrox's Programmer to Programmer series, and the Dummies book still gets used occasionally as a reference. The Problem - Design - Solution books have
always been great for me to learn from. I've had other books that were good as well, but more specific, AJAX, Master Pages, Security, etc.
I also used the Wrox Starter Kit, but it was nothing more than that. Not that useful.
Where [...] the ENIAC is equipped with 18,000 vacuum tubes and weighs 30 tons, computers in the future may have 1,000 vacuum tubes and perhaps weigh just 1 1/2 tons. ~Popular Mechanics, March 1949.
Can you please suggest any books on using JavaScript in Asp.Net (especially using JavaScript in Master and Content pages)? I cant find any suggestions in the web. All I found was links to MSDN and few other blogs explaining about integrating JavaScript
in Asp.Net but I feel it does not help a beginner like me.
The PDF is 10 meg but the list is catagorized by type of books. There's a reference to a really good book on ASP.NET internal architecture. And you already know about Walther's book. Also, Appendix B of the PDF file has a nice introduction to table-less
web page design using just CSS elements.

There are really a lot of books and videos on the net.
It depends on your experience and background, say you're a novice to Web, then the intro videos would be just fine for you, and some 'beginner' series book. On the other hand, if you're an experienced developer, say Windows app developer, then a 'professional'
series book would be good for you as learning through videos do not work as well as it is usually explained in books in a systematical manner.

"This book is by far the best computer programming book I have ever bought. You can go into my upstairs closet and find 20-30 books that I have purchased since the days of VB6. All of them have a few useful pages in them, but all together, they could not
add up to as much information as you have given me in the first 11 chapters of this book."
Try Professional ASP.NET 4 by Wrox. This book really covers everything - topics required from a beginner's perspective to an advance programmer's guide.
No offense, but I find those Unleased books not useful for learning. I have tried it once and never buy those Unleased books while I need to learn. (And if I need reference, I would just go online to check. Why waste your money while you can get it
online?) For beginner, that is a hard book to use for learning. Why buy a reference book while you need to learn? It is like picking up a foriegn language dictionary while you don't speak any. Well someone can learn a new language that way, but ordinally folks
(i.e. me) have to learn it in a proper way.
O'reilly book "Learning ASP.NET" is a good starting point. I have never regret in purchasing any O'reilly books.

I never tried ASP.NET Unleashed. My favorite ASP.NET book is ASP.NET for Dummies. You can peak through a free demo at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/beginner/web/tier2/vwd/
I also used the Wrox Starter Kit, but it was nothing more than that. Not that useful.

Appendix D at the end of the PDF document link below has a list of the best ASP.NET books that I've found:

Ultra-Fast ASP.NET: Build Ultra-Fast and Ultra-Scalable web sites using ASP.NET and SQL Server
Professional ASP.NET 4 in C# and VB
