It was suggested to me that DotNetNuke is a great platform to develop a website on.  After playing with it a bit I can see how it would be great to get something up and running quickly.  If, however, you want more than the off the shelf modules available (including those you can buy) is it better to just work straight on Visual Web Developer.  I'm not sure it is worth the effort of working within the DNN module development framework vs. doing it all in Visual Web Developer.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or opinions on this.  Thanks!

I personally believe it depends on what you are trying to do.  If DNN fits the mold then use it, but if you have a lot of customizations, and DNN doesn't work well or you have to do a lot of customization that will take longer to do than building a custom web site (considering there is a learning curve), then go the VWD route.  Our .NET user's group was setup with DNN and though it works well, I still have a harder time believing it can do everything you need a custom solution to do...

Thanks for your thoughts... it confirms what my gut was telling me.
