Has anyone had any luck loading the business starter site to GoDaddy using Deluxe hosting, SQL Server, or keeping the db local?  I'm particularly interested in those who have created a registration form to input customer info and insert it into the db hosted by GoDaddy.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ripsin

Got it to work.  Had my connectionstrings wrong.  Had to paste the connection string manually.  Started off using SQLExpress then switched it to run off GD's server.  Works fine.

GoDaddy is the hosting company.  The business starter kit, as you probably are aware, is a free downloadable asp.net website framework.  I used a form grid (insert only) with data being saved to SQL Server database on GoDaddy's host.  Site is: www.sfgisexpo.com .  I still have some work to do with the confirmation page for registration.

    Good luck,

I support a number of websites on GoDaddy that use the ASP.Net 2.0 registration and login controls.

If people run into trouble, it's usually because of the database connection string in the web.config file - if you're using SQL Express on the local database, then be aware that the format is going to be completely different for SQL Server.  I put an article on connection strings together on this a while ago. If you run into a problem, post a message to the forum with your web.config and someone will help.

So wait, the SQL stuff works on GoDaddy now?  I for the longest time when I set this up last september that I couldnt get the SQL scripts to install right....if this is the case then I can get off XML for a client site....

Can you tell me what you used to get the SQL scripts to run on GoDaddy?  I tried their SQL Web interface and it was not responsive, did they update it?

    Horizon,

There had been problems running SQL scripts using the Go Daddy Query Analyser - in particular it didn't interpret GO or comments properly. They have recently upgraded the SQL interface and I've noticed my own migration scripts run without the tweaking I had to do previously.

I've got a few sites on Go Daddy I use for testing purposes. I'll see if I can get an install of the business kit to set up smoothly - and will report back here within 24 hours.

I've set up the Business Starter Kit on a Go Daddy shared hosting site.

I was unable to run the SQL script using the Query Analyser "Open SQL file" button. However, I was able to apply the script by opening it in a text editor and copy-and-pasting the contents into the Query Analyser window. Hope this helps.

So you did this using SQL Management Studio and connecting to the SQL server that way instead of using their web based query analyzer thing?

No, with shared hosting you can't use Management Studio to connect to the live database.

I used their Web Query Analyser - I opened the SQL script, copied all the text and pasted it into the Query Analyser. Then clicked submit (or OK or Run or whatever it is, I'm not in front of it now)..

What didn't work was using their "browse" button to load the file - but the above method worked with no errors.

Just a quick note on the subject - the SQL Database publishing wizard is a great way to use SQLExpress locally to update/change
the website data and then load it to your SQL database on GoDaddy avoiding working on GoDaddy's SQL software.  Here is the download link -http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=56E5B1C5-BF17-42E0-A410-371A838E570A&displaylang=en
