Warning for people looking for a hosting company...

    DO NOT go to webhost4life.com...

they advertise a bunch of stuff..  but you get nothing for it..  just hot air..

my site goes down all the time..  i've emailed the ceo ( great option! too bad they don't email back! ) numerous times..  the FIRST time i emailed.. the ceo did respond..  i wrote back..  and nothing ever again..  he suggested maybe moving to a less crowded sql server..  which i totally agreed with..  where am i?  still the crappy server that goes down every few days..

it's also stated that it has a 99.9% uptime..  it was down for 12hrs..  where's the refund?  where's anything??

can't cancel since it's been too long..  so this is the best i can do..  make sure other people don't get trapped like me..  you get what you pay for..  it's cheap.. there is a reason..

So the CEO handles the customer complaints?

(I'm with GoDaddy, Danika comes racing over in her car to help me every time I have a question).

Seriously though, recently someone recommended that I go webhost4life.com and I came close to doing it.  May I ask a question--if they fixed the downtime problem, was that the only negative?

The reason I ask, I'm learning ASP.NET 2.0 (and really like the forums here).  When it comes to user authentication, I can easily make it work on my computer, but I can't get it to go over to GoDaddy.  There have been numerous posts on this problem and some quite lengthy, but they never seem to cover the topic in a way that makes it solve-able for a new person (good news is every other common problem does seem solveable eventually).  Now, I'm not asking you to fix my "GoDaddy user authentication" problem, but can you tell me if you've tested user authentication on webhost4life, and if yes, was setting it up easy? Someone else who had this GoDaddy issue reported being very happy with webhost4life.

I sympathize with what you said.

RIght now I'm eager enough to want to make this work that if you told me "they are up only 8 hours a day" I'd be happy that half the time I had something up and working that I could use for show

Sorry to read about your poor experience with this company. Could you show your URL, please?

     This is my case:

I have paid for the web hosting two weeks ago, but I asked for refund 1 day after my payment. It is because their web control manager is out of order (I couldn't create database through their web manager). I feel they are not professional in web hosting. So I asked for refund.

They asked me to try several days more and I can ask for refund with 45 days, so I try their web hosting service for some days. But I still asked for refund after 7 days because they don't offer free multiple domains hosting (not pointing to root) in the package. They agreed to refund my money, but until now, 10 days gone, I still haven't received the refund !

Did anyone get the refund from WebHost4Life successfully?

i host many web sites with WebHost4Life for long time now. Some of my app. have db with over 500,000 records in SQL  and never had serious problems with service they provide. One time one of my web sites was down few times within one week i contacted support and requested to move it to different server - problems ended....

I host many sites with different providers, most of them works perfect too, but even with very, very good & expensive hosting you might have problems - i have web site hosted for years now with one provider and was working perfect for all this years. Few months ago it was down for few hours (they had very strong attack on their network)

Anyway my point is that wherever you will host, you always might have some problems &  always will be some happy and unhappy customers.

I've had problems with them before. It took them more than a week to install an SSL certificate. We lost the ability to remote desktop into our dedicated server, after contacting support they said they had no record of us ever purchasing the Remote Desktop feature (which we did). Plus our website was extremely sluggish and just too bad for performance, even on a dedicated system. We've moved on from them.

Your right, some people have good experiences, some bad. However it is my opinion that the bad seems to outweigh the good.

    Cheers,

what do you expect for $9.95/m ? - for that price with all the futures they offer I think it is good hosting.
To be honest with all I use different hosting for e-commerce sites or for customers that would kill me if site went down for some reason...

I have been with webhost4life for about 6 months.  Their customer service was excellent but their reliability isn't.  I never know how quick or how slow my pages will load.  I have a DotNetNuke installation and it takes a couple minutes to load the first page.  They also limit to two databases witch is inconvenient for a developer.  I am in the process of looking else where ... anyone have any experience with ixwebhosting?

Yeah I used IXWebHosting... for a few hours. Everything seemed great until I realised that their ASP.Net and .Net versions are still 1.1

No ASP.Net 2 .. I don't know how this can be, surely if they kept their win servers up to date they would have to have .Net 2 and at least ASP.Net 2.

So I could not host any of my new ASP based sites there.

Very annoying cause I had also had a failed attempt the night before with godaddy who had a terrible control panel system and don't offer real multiple domain and site hosting, the biggest problem is you can only setup email accounts at the first and primary domain name you sign up with, only at that one domain. Also any extra sites you set up exist in directories within your first and primary site, this can be a pain when using ASP.Net config I'm sure.

Anyway I'm desperately seeking a new host. I've looked at webhost4life and decided no based on feedback I see posted everywhere, same case for midphase, same for hostexcellence. All these places have such a bad rep now, it seems that midphase were doing ok until december last year and it's all down hill now.

All I want is 5 to 10 independent sites and domains, either ms sql server or mysql databases for each. Shared servers, at least a gig of disk, up to a gig of traffic, 10 or so email accounts for each domain and ability to create sub domains on the dns. And I should add, up to date technology and very little downtime.

I can pay up to US$15 ... why is this so damn difficult, I have been searching and testing for 4 days!!!

Any pointers to a solution are appreciated.

I've looked at midphase, ixwebhosting, webhost4life, discountasp, godaddy, hostexcellence, hostmonster.......

In all honesty, I don't think you are going to get everything you want, 5-10 unique ASP.NET 2.0 web sites, each with MS SQL or MySQL (not sure why you would want to use MySQL with ASP.NET 2.0, at $15.  To be honest, if you expect to pay only $15 for what you want, you're going to get a host that offers bad service.  In other words, in hosting, you get what you pay for.

Of the hosts that you mentioned (midphase, ixwebhosting, webhost4life, discountasp, godaddy, hostexcellence, hostmonster.......), I would recommend Discountasp.  You mentioned that you are looking for a host that offers up to date technology, especially Windows/ASP.NET technology, then I would recommend Discountasp, or any host that focuses only on Windows/ASP.NET hosting for that matter.  From my experience, hosts that support both unix and windows are only experts in one technology and not both.

Another alternative, you might want to look into is a dedicated hosting solution, or VPS.  That will be able to accommodate all the sites that you want, but your monthly cost is going to be much higher than $15.

I think for paying only $15, you are expecting too much from a host.

I must rise to defend good ole GoDaddy! Although they do host both Unix and Windows things, I don't think you can beat their (roughly) $75 per year package -- especially considering the disk space that comes with it (100 gig of disk and 1000 gig of traffic per month!). In that shared hosting package, sure there are some constraints which largely come from the fact that you don't really own or control the whole server, but once you get the knack of it, it works.

And when it doesn't -- or, like me, when you're confused -- they're at the end of the phone line (where I use Skype as a speakerphone so I can have my hands free to try things as I work with a tech). EVERY tech person that I have dealt with for a variety of accounts (both my own and for others that I service) has been super -- super attitude, super competent and never rushing you if you don't understand their solution. Every time they send me one of their links to a satisfaction survey, I feel like giving them a "6" (out of 1 thru 5) and I always drop in a compliment on how well they have helped. They're motivated and top-notch in my book!

With the way the hosting market is these days, hosters often over promise on features for their low price.  People should be aware that the cheapest is not always the best.

I would seriously look for mid range hoster, ask for a trial account to be set up so you can test the waters before signing up....

    Cheers
