value missing from input controls in Firefox

I'm attempting to pass the innerHTML of a div tag into a Javascript function. In IE, I get input tags with their correct values embedded, but in Firefox, the value attribute on the input tag is gone. Does anyone know how to get the HTML of a div with the actual, current values for the input controls...
