Does ANYONe happen to know if john is still supporting and/or working on his magic modules? I would really like to know if there will be a version compatible with DNN 3.x I have sent various emails - with no luck what-so-ever. Even left my contact information as the website indicates - however that hasn't been updated in a while either. Any clue/information would be most welcome! 2004-11-30T23:50:21-05:00767224http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/767224.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? same here! The magic gadget is a great module...I use it and my customers love it....I hope this is still supported.... 2004-12-09T01:41:47-05:00768615http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/768615.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? Completely agree with you.... I am just afraid that there will not be a version for DNN3x -- and that will be a huge letdown. You would think 'someone' would know how to contact him or know what's happened. 2004-12-09T04:59:52-05:00768736http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/768736.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? mm have been trying to get in contact with him also. Working on a new dnn3 CMS module that will combine features of some of the most popular modules into one, xform, magicgadget, formbuilder, user defined table , schwing content and a few more. I have a somewaht basic tag engine at the moment and since John wasnt around too much on the dnn world any more I thought he might sell his source but so far no reply. I know he was selected fro outher core but after that there were som family issues tornados and stuff and after there wasnt much sign of lif from him until his post on his site in septmber but after that he seems to have gone missing from dnn world unfortunately 2004-12-09T10:23:03-05:00780957http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/780957.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? New CMS module ??? How is it coming ??? Would love to get an early look at it - have a site i want to port from 2.1.2 that makes a fair bit of use of MagicGadget and im kinda screwed since there was never any sourcecode released for that module. Any solution that gives me a way forward would be really cool Westa 2004-12-23T00:21:00-05:00780997http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/780997.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? I am in the same boat as most. I have heavily built quite a few sites around the MM. I have tried to contact John over and over on email, SnowCovered Support, etc. I did get a Read Receipt on the last email that I sent, so I am assuming that he got it...but absolutely no response. I am beginning to wonder what the worst case scenario is with John. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, and I would feel really bad about slamming him and then finding out that there is something really wrong. I am stuck at 2.1.2 on a lot of sites due to this. I don't have a single site that doesn't use the MM. John, please just let us know something if you are out there. Thanks. 2004-12-23T01:37:13-05:00781170http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/781170.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? I wouldn't think it is a good idea to 'slam' anyone let alone John who put in a huge amount of work and sold his modules for very cheap prices. I just hope he is OK and maybe taking a 'DNN break' (if so - hurry up and get back here John!). I'm with all you guys, there are sites I have where almost all the content in MM and working without it will be tough. What to do! It appears the magicmodules.com site is gone -- least for me -- "No website configured at this address" when I try to go there. If thats the case - it definately does not bode well for the current magic modules peoples. Nokiko - hopefully you can get something good out soon that will work with 3.x as I really want to move up to the new code. As for features - the biggest things I use are the Image/Thumbnail popups, the marquee configs, the inline SQL queries, and of course the staging and rollback features (most important when you have multiple people editing content). I would be more than happy to help test some stuff if needbe as well... Feel free to contact me. 2004-12-30T17:05:54-05:00785941http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/785941.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? gsnow, I can make all the MG features available in the 3.x release of NukeHTML. Since NukeHTML already supports embedded controls and token replacement, it cab be extended to parse MG tokens just by creating and adding a usercontrol that implements the necessary MG capabilities without any code changes. If you are interested, we can collaborate to make this happen. Hi Nik, I have been looking at NukeHTML for precisely that reason, it is not only handy to have support for tokens etc, but it is really easy to teach portal admins to use tokens. I find the User and Conditional tags very handy. Do you have a copy of MG to look at? PS - public.speerio.net is erroring out when you try an edit one of the demo modules? Cheers 2004-12-30T23:30:56-05:00786278http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/786278.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? Nick, I do not have a copy of the module, but I don't think I need it if I could just get the documentation. I'd prefer to just implement the features that way. If you have it, I would appreciate if you could email to support at speerio dot net. Thanks for the heads up on public.speerio.net. Since it's a public playground, I have to go and periodically play janitor. ;-) 2004-12-30T23:48:34-05:00786282http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/786282.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? What sort of timeline are you looking at for releasing NukeHTML 3.0 ?? And more importantly - whats the chances of getting MG token support in that build. Have a site that needs to be converted to 3.0 pretty soon after release - and looking at the options - NukeHTML seems like a good way to go. The MG tag system was very extensive - with the option inserting tags very heavily used: [DATE|startdate|enddate] inset content here [/DATE] [ROLE|roleid] inset content here [/ROLE] [ISHOST] inset content here [/ISHOST] [ISGUEST] inset content here [/ISGUEST] [ISUSER] inset content here [/ISUSER] Also the versioning and rollback features - basically an AUTOMATIC snapshot system - that occured everytime and edit was pushed - and recorded the date and user who made the changes. Any updates as to how things are comming with this module? Any demo section for it yet? 2005-01-19T21:11:47-05:00803984http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/803984.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche?? I have reviewed the MG features and the ones that aren't already present in NukeEdit are fairly straightforward to implement. I hadn't really planned on writing any code to upgrade NukeEdit or any other module until the official DNN 3.x release was imminent because it's more work developing/testing against a beta platform (which, by definition, is unstable). Also, so far I have counted about five people interested in a seamless "cross-grade" from MG. It would be helpful to know if there are others interested in this as it would help justify the investment in development time for adding the features -- email me -- support at speerio dot net. 2005-01-20T02:35:40-05:00804020http://forums.asp.net/p/760635/804020.aspx/1?Re+Magic+Modules+Magic+Gadget+development+John+Laroche+Re: Magic Modules / Magic Gadget development - John Laroche??
