SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard installation fails

Hi, I'm trying to install SQL server 2008 R2 Standard in Windows 7 x64. Everything goes well until the setup support files are installed. Then the wizard simply closes, tries to run the next step, but fails and nothing happens.

I had different versions of SQL server installed before, and there might have been corrupt uninstalls. However, I ran Revo Uninstaller Pro and removed the stubborn applications as well as their registry keys, but still the installation fails.

I will appreciate any help.

Did you try running the install as the adminstrator?

Yes I did, it still fails, with no error messages.

Your installer might be get corrupted.!

Please try using different MSI package.

You should check install log and event log to find out error details.

I already tried 3 different installers, of different versions of SQL server. All react in the same way.

Also, setup log files are clear of errors.

This is a odd problem...

I think you need to call the SQL support to help you!

I worked around the problem by installing SQL Server on a virtual machine.

It might be due to media corruption during download, if you are using the MSDN media.

Please check it and try again to install

The same file worked when I tried to install in the virtual machine. The problem is my computer, not the file.

for windows 7

try to turn off UAC/ or set the UAC to the lowest leve before installing, sometimes UAC is the culprit making some software isntallation to keep failing

This isn't the best advice I've given but try to shut off your antivirus before install. Sometimes that can raise havoc.
