Project file cannot be loaded issue

Hi all,

I have VS2008, VS2010, MSSSQL R2, TFS installed in my machine runing on 64bit windows 7. There's a project assigned lately where by it was developed in vs2008. After i tried get Latest from TFS and open the solution, it prompts

"The version of the report server project is not supported and the project must be upgraded. Do you want to upgrade this report server project to the latest version?" since the project is already in production, i do not wish to upgrade it. Then the problem comes as it's not loaded in the solution. Anyone could guide me how to handle this situation to load report server project without upgrading its version. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You are required to open the project from the file menu of VS. Sometime it delete the reference of linked files. try to open the solution from the file menu. It May works for you.

Hi Niralpatel, I have tried open it from the file menu like you said. It still prompts request to upgrade. I have to choose 'No' and then prompts message saying 'Cannot load the report server project'. Any other way to solve this like downgrade installed program?

tried loading it with vs2008 ?

The only option is continue using VS2008 if you don't want to upgrade.

I was using VS2008 to open/load the project with TFS. It still prompted the same message asking for upgrade. That's why I post here to seek any solution for this.

Hi,

Does Framework 3.5 installed on your machine.

As I think that your framework version mismatched with the previous version.

I just had the same issue and I will make a few assumptions:

You are attempting to open a Reporting Services solution
The Reporting Services solution was originally created on a machine that had SQL Server 2008 (NOT R2) installed

If you attempt to open a reporting services solution on a machine with R2 installed, but the solution was created with SQL Server 2008 (not R2), you will get this error. Apparently the only option is to either upgrade the project to R2, as VStudio prompts you to do, and have any other developers accessing the project also be sure to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2, OR you can downgrade your install of R2 down to SQL Server 2008.
